Think About How You Live

Yes, it has been one of those days when I have been made to think about my life, how I live and how I want to live. There is nothing like a touch of mortality to make us sit back and think, take stock and realise we are only human!

Yes, I have been to a funeral, a friend of mine, a husband, father and grandfather, he was seventy two years old, but to look at him you would never think it, his zest for life and playful nature always made him seem a lot younger. He had been married for fifty years! (not much hope I will make that!)he had a great social life and was the fun of any party just like his wife, great characters together. He was devoted to his wife, daughter and grandchildren, and always had time to help or see other people.

Sitting in the chapel, was also another friend of mine a beautiful, single lady of a mere (50ish, but she never admits to it!) Who has gone through three cancer operations herself this year, also a lively and vivacious soul. Her last op being only three days ago, but she was there as a good friend.

What really made me think was that although we had all lead very different lives, we had all done what we had wanted to do. Had the courage to follow our dreams, found ways to finance and earn money to work when, where and how we wanted.

Living in any foreign country that is not your own brings its own challenges, but so much reward. Working for yourself brings along many challenges, but so many rewards. This man had been living the life he loved, with the people he loved, in a place he loved, doing work he loved right up to the end of his life. That is a very powerful statement about the dreams, determination and the dedication of this man.

Wonder how many people can actually say the same about their lives, situations, relationships and work? One thing is sure we have no guarantees, so if you are putting off following your dreams, working for yourself, getting the life you want until the time is right; how much are you going to miss out on?

Take the dreams off of the shelf, dust them off, and beleive in them, then take the actions to find a way to make them come true. Our graveyards are the richest grounds for "what ifs", "I wish I had", "if only" Don't let yours be added to the pile. Be like Gary and be in the champions, "I did it", section.

I know where I want to be........Thank you Gary for yet another great time. RIP my friend
